To help teach the principles associated with the CMM, the Mississippi State University Small Business
Development Center CyberSecurity (MSU-SCS) project will host workshops periodically. MSU-SCS has partnered
with the Washington SBDC and created resources to address the practices for CMM Level 1. Attendees of
our workshops will receive a Guidebook to help address the practices for CMM Level 1 and a Policy Workbook
for businesses to organize their own cybersecurity plans. A description of our 3-part workshop series is
provided below
- Introduction to Basic Cyber Hygiene
-
Regardless of their size, small businesses could be in danger to cyber-attacks that can negatively
impact their mission. In this webinar we highlight basic threats and risks that businesses encounter. A
road map for how to deal with these issues are also outlined as CMM Level 1 is explained. After viewing
this presentation, attendees should be able to identify common issues that can impact a business from
a cybersecurity perspective. They will also understand that CMM Level 1 is a fundamental step in
addressing these problems.
- Cybersecurity and Data Protection, Part 1
-
In the first section of this two-part webinar, the specific practices in CMM Level 1 will be explained.
This presentation will cover three of the six domains associated with CMM Level 1. Domains are broad
categories of related cybersecurity topics, while practices are specific actions that should be taken.
For each practice in a domain, we will give a description of the domain it belongs to and clarifying
examples on how a practice can be applied. At the completion of the webinar, attendees will have a basic
knowledge of each practice discussed and how they apply to a business. The domains that will be discussed
are listed below:
- Access Control
- Identification and Authentication
- Media Protection
- Cybersecurity and Data Protection, Part 2
-
In the second section of this two-part webinar, the final three domains in CMM Level 1 will be discussed.
Domains are broad categories of related cybersecurity topics, while practices are specific actions that
should be taken. For each practice in a domain, we will give a description of the domain it belongs to and
clarifying examples on how a practice can be applied. At the completion of the webinar, attendees will
have a basic knowledge of each practice discussed and how they apply to a business. The domains that will
